Tom Cruise is making a new Days of Thunder film: whaddya wanna see?
We’ll tell you what we want: rubbin’, son
One of Hollywood’s biggest and most successful producers has confirmed a Days of Thunder sequel is in the works.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight’s Nischelle Turner at the premiere of F1: The Movie, Jerry Bruckheimer lifted the lid on “the next one”, noting how the movie’s original star – Tom Cruise – will help, um, steer the film.
“There’s always new technologies, always new ways to do things, see things,” Bruckheimer told ET. “Tom is such a great individual, comes up with phenomenal ideas, so we’ll have something really exciting for an audience once we pull it together.”
Cruise has form not only in resurrecting his old movie hits – see the excellent Top Gun: Maverick - but also in powersliding Fiat 500s around Rome and more importantly sending reasonably priced cars onto two wheels around a dusty old airfield.
Which means we’ve got high hopes for the sequel. Long time coming, too. The original came out in 1990 and quickly became one of the decade’s most quotable action flicks – including Duvall’s immortal “rubbin’, son, is racin’” line – and with the F1 movie proving to be a hit, demand is high for more tyre-destroying action.
Oh, there'll be a bit of ‘movie’ sprinkled in there too. “It’s always about the emotion,” Bruckheimer said. “It’s always about the journey we take you on. The highs and the lows and the humour and the romance. We want it in our lives, we want that. You want to go through that experience and feel better when you come out of it.”
So, what experience do you want out of a new Days of Thunder film? Answers below…
