Listen to the Koenigsegg Jesko’s wild V8 rev really very quickly
CvK explains the lack of inertia in his new V8 in the best way possible: NOISE
The 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 in the back of the new Koenigsegg Jesko is 5kg lighter than its last iteration in the Agera. It also gets a flat-plane crank setup, and a pair of turbos complemented by a 20-litre carbon tank that shoots jets of air into them at 20 bar to reduce lag and quicken the spool up time.
Furthermore, the whole unit is matched up to a brand-new transmission – literally, Koenigsegg built one from scratch and called it the ‘Light Speed Gearbox’. It’s a system that does away with a traditional flywheel and clutch, instead housing multiple clutches inside the lightweight unit.
But you’re not here for an engineering lesson. You’re here because the engine’s power and the gearbox’s lightness mean there’s very little inertia. Which in turn means the Jesko is able to rev at a lightning pace. And when it does so, it sounds quite delightful.
So, without further ado, allow us to hand over to the Big Boss himself, Christian von Koenigsegg and his glamorous assistant – an orange Jesko – to explain, and showcase, what a high-revving, low-inertia V8 sounds like on full attack.
