This is a triple FIA GT Championship-winning Dodge Viper, and we must have it
Just 57 of these GTS-Rs have ever been built, and this one’s steeped in history… which'll cost you over £635,000
Can you believe it’s been seven years since Dodge retired the Viper? The V10-powered pantomime was one of the US of A’s great sports cars and even established itself as a titan in GT2 racing throughout its various iterations. One such example has now come up for sale at Race Cars Direct, and it’s a corker.
Chassis number ‘C36’ was originally built in 2000 by French motorsport outfit Oreca (yes, that one featured in Gran Turismo) and recorded a string of major achievements, crowned by a trio of FIA GT Championship titles.
Though very little information is provided on specific outputs, we know it houses a fully rebuilt version of the original race-spec 8.0-litre V10 engine. Chances are, it’s producing somewhere close to 600bhp (and likely a similar amount of torque) and weighs around the 1.1-tonne mark. The transmission? That’ll probably also be a very raw (and very noisy) six-speed manual. How’s all that for authenticity?
Perhaps the most impressive thing is that this Viper GTS-R doesn’t actually look too different from a standard one, save for the huge rear wing, the green racing lights and the roof scoop. There’s also a slightly lower and more chiselled body kit attached to bring a bit more drama to the loud livery. And to improve aerodynamics. Probably.
An offer of £635,000 (plus VAT) should seal the deal. What do we reckon, readers?
