Buying

What should I be paying?

A little more than the BMW iX3, unfortunately. So the entry-level ‘Sport’ costs from £60,350. That’s around £1,500 more than the cheapest iX3. From there you move up to AMG Line (£63,350), AMG Line Premium (£68,350), AMG Line Premium Plus (£70,850) and finally the Premier Edition (£73,350).

Yes, that’s a lot of money, but when you compare it to the outgoing EQC, it’s a bit of a bargain. At launch they used to cost from around £65,000, but by mid-2023 it started at a whopping £74,330 – and that was for an 80kWh battery, last-gen tech and only 259-miles of range.

What's the difference between trims?

Go for the no-frills ‘Sport’ trim and you get 20-inch wheels, the Sky Control panoramic roof, heated comfort seats in faux leather trim and a ‘10.3-inch Driver Display, 14-inch Central Display and 14-inch Digital Trim Panel’ (note, that’s not the full 39.1-inch Hyperscreen, but separate screens imbedded into on a continuous flat surface).

Step up to AMG Line and you get 20-inch five-spoke AMG wheels, an illuminated star in the middle of the grille, ambient lighting, sport seats, and a smattering of AMG badges… but still the same screen set up above.

Stretch to AMG Line Premium and you also get keyless go, headlamps that do a digital dance when you approach and leave the car, a heated steering wheel and wiper blades, a 15-speaker Burmester sound system and the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen.

Still want more? Beyond that, AMG Line Premium Plus adds 21-inch wheels, open-pore wood trim, sports seats with massage and ventilation, illuminated stars in the panoramic roof and a 19-speaker Burmester stereo. And finally the Premier Edition adds unique wheels, AMG bodystyling upgrades, an illuminated surround and central panel for the front grille and black leather seats with contrasting red stitching.

And then onto the options. We’d go for the £2,500 for the Refinement Package that includes the air suspension and rear-axle steering, and consider £1,000 for the tow bar and ESP trailer stabilisation. Beyond that it’s an extra £750 to £1,000 for metallic paint.

So what's the best spec?

Personally, we’d go for the AMG Line Premium so you get the upgraded headlights, better Burmester stereo and the Hyperscreen, and then add the air suspension and rear steering on top of that. A grand total of £70,850 or £71,850 if you want fancy paint. Sorted.
