Buying

What should I be paying?

In the mainstream range (that is, not the Peugeot Sport Engineered) there are just two engines and two trims. Simples.

Prices start from £34,170 for the pure petrol in base-spec Allure trim, with the PHEV starting from £43,790. In one up GT trim, you’re looking at £36,820 and £46,440 respectively. In other words, the PHEV is around £10k extra in both cases.

Rivals? A Skoda Superb is a couple of grand cheaper, an Audi A4 a couple of grand more. A BMW 3 Series is just under £40k, and the VW Arteon pips the £40k mark.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KIT?

The Allure sounds like good value. It gets 17-inch wheels, matrix LED headlights, reversing camera, full-size driver screen and touchscreen, wireless phone mirroring and built-in connected navigation, and a half-leather effect trim.

GT trim adds 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, full driver assist, 360-degree parking cameras and a more intricately trimmed interior. Standard colour is blue, while white, grey and black are £650 extra, and red is £850 on top.

WHAT’S THE BEST SPEC?

For most buyers the 1.2 pure petrol is the version to go for as it’s more fun to drive and £10k cheaper. But if you have a home charger or pay BIK company car tax the PHEV is a no-brainer.

We reckon the base Allure trim will cover most people’s needs, given that it’s not a very base spec kinda trim and comes with the same size instrument cluster and infotainment display. Spend any savings on a better colour instead.
