Buying

What should I be paying?

All Atto 3 models have a load of kit as standard, so the range is narrow on price, and actually it's a pretty good price. The base Active spec is £36,490.

That doesn't sound bad for a 60kWh EV. The spec is strong too; full driving assist, a big glass roof, a heat pump to preserve range in winter, vehicle-to-load external power, adaptive headlights, and heated electric front seats.

Another £500 buys the Comfort trim, which really only adds the 11kW on-board charger. Step up to the £38,990 Design level, as seen in these photos, and you score a bigger centre screen, electric tailgate, floor mats, and even more disco cabin lighting.

BYD is selling through dealers rather than directly. The plan is to have 20 or 30 operating by the end of 2023, but the map they showed us had none in the west of England or South Wales.

Warranty is a bit complicated. It's four years/70k miles for everything, and eight/90k for the motor and electronics, eight/120k for the battery and 12/unlimited for body corrosion.
