What should I be paying?

The UX starts at £34,750 for the entry model, £36,950 for the F Sport Design, £42,750 for the F-Sport, and £46,750 for Takumi spec. Want four-wheel drive? You’re looking at £42,740 for the entry model, £44,850 for the F-Sport, and £48,100 for the Takumi.

If you’re after a monthly lease then the entry-level UX starts the bidding at around £540 a month with a £5k down payment, 10,000-mile yearly limit and three-year repayment period, rising to a dizzying £825 a month for the top-spec Takumi.

What are the specs like?

Base spec UXs come with a reasonable-though-not-prodigious level of standard equipment. You get dual-zone climate control, keyless go, spots of leather trim around the steering wheel and gearstick, heated mirrors and LED headlights. 

One up F-Sport Design adds 18in alloys and more safety tech, while the F-Sport gets adaptive suspension and eight-way electrically adjustable sport seats up front. 

Top-spec Takumi models get adaptive headlights, head-up display, electric sunroof, and 13-speaker Mark Levison sound system. If you want to add nicer paint into the mix, you'll need to chuck in £600–800 on top.

What would you choose?

The entry-level UX is probably the one to go for, not least because there are various packs that offer you a bundle of the toys and gizmos you'd want. We’d likely add the Premium Pack (£2k), which gets you 17in alloys, front and rear parking sensors, heated seats and steering wheel, auto wipers and a reversing camera.

Lexus offers a three-year/60,000-mile warranty as standard that can be magically extended to 10 years and 100,000 miles if you service your car at a Lexus dealer each year (your officially approved annual service gives you a 12-month extension after the first three years). So that’s nice of them.
