Estate car reviews

Light on practicality, but otherwise the most complete sports estate there is. And one of the best electric cars, too

Toyota adds an estate-like boot onto its already extremely competent electric SUV. What’s not to like?”

The RS5 belongs to a world hell bent on disguising mass rather than stripping it out… nonetheless, it’s got spades of bandwidth

A terrifically mature new-gen small car from Mercedes, even if the design reprises the old. Still usefully compact

An electric estate for hatchback money. Just a shame it's a bit lifeless to drive and rear legroom barely grows

With its eye-catching design, interesting cabin, and useful hybrid powertrains, the 308 SW makes a compelling case for itself

Dacia’s focused relentlessly on building the best value seven-seater – everything else is a bonus

Subaru-built with Subaru values; it’s an electric Outback that offers more than you’d think

Relaxing to drive, hugely comfortable and impressively equipped, but not without its flaws

A good looking, fine driving, practical family estate. And only marginally more expensive than the hatch

A very blunt instrument. But so’s a sledgehammer. And they’re pretty effective

While others play catch-up on EV estates, this Peugeot is the best value all-rounder you can currently buy

A sensible hybrid family estate with the fuel-sipping ability of a camel. Doesn't mean we have to love it...

Audi’s fast five-door family estate now has more brains to go with all that brawn, making it a consummate all-rounder

Not as sharply styled as it once was, and its lack of individuality might perturb some. But the car’s core values mostly remain

Goes, stops, and steers like a proper M special. No compromise in practicality

For the vast majority of us, the 3 Series Touring is all the car we want or need. For the final one per cent there is the M3 Touring

The Taycan Sport Turismo handles as beautifully as it looks. Practicality, on the other hand, is not this estate’s strongest suit

The V60 is a sensible, safe Volvo, just as you’d expect. The estate car of choice if comfort (and style) means more to you than handling

A well rounded, complete, comfortable car with a calming temperament that makes it a pleasure to waft about in

A handsome saloon or estate that doesn’t try too hard to be an aero car
