car reviews

Among the most complete family cars you can buy for sensible money. As compelling now as it was when it was launched in 2016

A proper all-rounder with a spec for everyone. As long as you want a medium-sized SUV, of course

A spectacularly good hot hatch that gained some extra focus we had no idea it lacked

One of the pioneering performance SUVs uses plug-in power to stay relevant in its third generation

A capable answer to a question nobody should be asking

Doesn't create a new must-have niche, or take itself too seriously, and neither should you

MG gives the previously dull-but-useful MG5 a thorough upgrade inside and out. Reveals a decent, relatively cheap, unfussy pure electric estate

Futuristic looks conceal run-of-the-mill underbits. Still, the Hyundai Staria is the acceptable face of MPVing

Mini's crossover still sits in the family-size heartland, but there are more interesting options now available

A car that makes going fast incredibly easy. But rivals do the whole 'fun' thing much better

The all-important 0-124mph sprint takes 0.3 seconds longer than the coupe, but if we’re honest, we think we could cope with that...

A lightweight, rugged city car big on charm, and small on thirst

VW's iconic van may be over 70 years old, but it's still a strong contender

Want a Niro? The EV is probably still the one to buy, but the hybrids are solid family crossovers

It's refined, as good to drive as any small SUV and decently made and equipped

A characterful supermini with decent levels of comfort, the C3 has ended up as a likeable little car. If not for those with choice paralysis

Latest Compass is much improved, but it fails to bring anything new to the crossover party

A desirable and hugely practical device for carrying seven people with a few annoying foibles

As practical as a pair of lead water wings, but one of the most entertaining cars ever built

Success in a hatch isn't just about the drive. The Focus has the rest of the bases well covered too

A sensible update for a supermini that's brilliant to drive. Enough to take its place back at the top of sales charts?
