car reviews

A car that used to be purely sensible now lets some style into the mix. Not perfect, but wholeheartedly good value for money

BMW’s four-wheel-drive-only four-seat convertible, now with a fabric roof and some serious chops when it comes to going fast. That’ll be the 500+ bhp, then

Veyron's successor is a car that does things no other car can; one with a distinct personality

A fascinating and fast send off to what might be one of the great engines. The 812 Comp is a wild triumph we'll look back on in years to come

Nothing in the BMW range - nor any rival factory - stretches a band across the three legs of drivability, style and practicality like the 4 Series Gran Coupe

A refreshing niche that ain’t a crossover, but not as sporty as billed

Rear-steering Megane RS has a charm, if you like your hot hatches firm, edgy and demanding attention

Renault mends the bits that needed mending and leaves the bits that didn’t. A big step forwards

Jeep might have taken 30 years to give us the new Grand Wagoneer, but it’s pulled out all the stops to make the best vehicle it could

A lovingly created, better-than-new classic Ferrari, and the most affordable (!) way to get a California Spyder into your life

Citroen's little crossover has a very useful cabin, and it's more individual than many of its ilk. Pity it's not as comfy as billed

The Pininfarina Battista is a triumph for what it set out to achieve. It’s beautiful, and so violently fast you will never get used to it

It's a BMW 5 Series: very refined, great to drive and features loads of tech

Not the most compelling hatch, but as a car for real family life, it could be brilliant

A cult favourite, and with good reason. Fast, fun and frugal, the Mk1 Fabia vRS is a relic of a bygone era

The Boxster isn't going to awe you or overpower you. It simply works with you in a deeply satisfying way

The electric 500 convertible is compromised, but that won't diminish its appeal to fans

One of those classic ‘nice if you like to stand out from the herd’ cars. More relaxed than sporting, but will anyone notice?

If you want a van that’s unusually civilised, then this will make those long days at work a heck of a lot easier

Practical, comfortable and premium. A fantastic large estate from Skoda

It’s a seductive car, the A5 Cabriolet, and while more dynamically accomplished than its predecessor, it’s still more of a grand touring boulevardier rather than a B-road hustler
