car reviews

Ignore the grille, what lies behind makes the M3 the most complete sports saloon on sale today

If you're after a seven-seat electric car, then the EQV is the one

The Lexus RX is a handsome player in the big SUV arena, but it's hard to play the value card this high up the price chain

Sound the fanfare, it's a rear-drive Alfa that's rather good indeed. Updated tech helps too

Maserati’s take on the ubiquitous medium-sized SUV hits plenty of targets, yet feels like a car designed to do just that

New mid-engined Corvette C8 is a revolution, not evolution

The Audi A6 Avant makes a compelling case for itself, but doesn’t quite match up to the all-round excellence of the BMW 5 Series Touring

An imperious cruiser, best sampled with vast quantities of diesely torque. Now with better tech and still available in bonkers SVR form

It's comfy, it drives well, it's got performance *and* eco options... There's really not much to criticise

It's a BMW 5 Series: very refined, great to drive and features loads of tech

It’s a seductive car, the A5 Cabriolet, and while more dynamically accomplished than its predecessor, it’s still more of a grand touring boulevardier rather than a B-road hustler

An enormously well-rounded true four-seat cabrio… but open cars are all about style. Does this have the right kind?

A coupe-ified SUV that isn't massively less practical than the car on which it's based. But you still want the SUV

Looks good, lowers the heart rate and comes with some reasonably cost-effective engines. A winning combination, slightly fussy facelift details aside

The posh cabriolet market isn't huge. Perhaps the E-Class's utter dominance is to blame

The culmination of decades of work for Toyota, but it's for very specialist cases and hydrogen cheerleaders only

Sportier Sportback does well to not compromise on practicality, but you’ll pay a premium for odd looks

The X6-by-Benz is much better than the old one, but doesn’t enjoy life around town

The M3 coupe's changed name and gained not only two turbos, but one of the most aggressive driving experiences on sale

The base engines are gruff, but the handling is as sweet as ever. Very few sports cars are this complete

Praise be, BMW’s given us a proper M driver’s car. The M2 Competition is simply outstanding.
