car reviews

An ageing but suave Italian limo that's the nearest thing you can get to a four-door Ferrari

Judge it as a taller, fatter Golf R and it's very good. But it's flawed family transport

A curious mix of speed and efficiency with a big dollop of comfort. It's just not especially fun

Much improved with new interior and smoother engines, The finest big wagon to drive

The Highlander suffers mainly from an excess of middle-of-the-road. It’s fine. But fine isn’t quite good enough

GT motoring at its finest. A fabulous, relaxing cruiser... once you've gotten used to its eccentricities

Sportier Sportback does well to not compromise on practicality, but you’ll pay a premium for odd looks

Time to blow the dust off the 'all the car you'd ever need or want' cliche... The big E has all bases covered.

Taut, direct and surprisingly old-school hot hatch from a very forward-looking company

Everything you'd ever need from a posh saloon, except just a little flash of soul

Time is starting to tell for the Jaguar F-Type. Old school driving experience isn't without charm, but sophistication is lacking

Wilfully odd-looking small SUV is actually fun to drive. It's the Nissan Juke's worthy heir

The F-Pace SVR has a character of its own versus other über-SUVs. Nicely laid back as a daily companion. Unless you deliberately go looking for its sharper side...

Lambo at its wildest. Supercapacitor technology plays second fiddle to mighty V12, handling more fluent than you might expect

The Vitara isn't the coolest crossover on sale, but there's still some fun to be had. More to like here than you might expect

Far from the most exciting thing, but a sensible and affordable option

Ticks every cost-effective box, and quite refined. Still tricky to be enthusiastic about, though

Presents enough rational arguments that it'll insinuate itself deep into many families' lives. But feels its age in many respects. There are better, more interesting cars in this class

Jaguar XF review: the class-leading dynamics have been preserved and the new interior is in a different world, but whether it's enough to reverse the model’s drift towards market indifference is moot

Porsche's updated sports limo has more ability and bandwidth than ever before. The best it's ever been
