car reviews

A terrifically mature new-gen small car from Mercedes, even if the design reprises the old. Still usefully compact

The plushest, most precise Morgan yet, but it’s very pricey and still vehemently analogue

An electric estate for hatchback money. Just a shame it's a bit lifeless to drive and rear legroom barely grows

A £84k Kia? Yes, this is where we are now, but the EV9 does plenty to justify a once-fanciful price

The GT3’s evolution continues with lessons taken from the RS and S/T. And it’s available with rear seats or without a roof

A pleasing step on from the car it replaces. Won't please the enthusiasts, but it will please those watching the pennies

The Vauxhall Astra looks great, handles well and will be pretty cheap to run. Bosh. What more do you want?

Ford's previous form in crossovers is a bit spotty. Spoiler alert: this one's a good 'un

A Mazda like no other... because it isn't one, really. There are glimmers of the firm’s dynamic nous, but that touchscreen is unforgivable

The Amalfi Spider is just as dynamically talented as the hard-top and asks you for precious little compromise. Except for the size of your luggage

The Tonale is styled and engineered with more verve than most of its rivals. Not perfect, but no crossovers are

Swaggering family lux-bus drives appropriately. One of the passengers will need a comfort break long before it needs a recharge

A wilfully different all-electric saloon with a lovely interior, but not one for keen drivers

Top spec models are well equipped and massively capable off-road (particularly the AT35), but on road it’s still rough around the edges

It looks the part and it's fun to drive, but Abarth’s 600e can't escape its roots

A reminder that there’s nothing – nothing – to beat a lightweight for raw thrills and excitement

Spacious, efficient supermini ruined by interfering ‘safety’ tech and soggy drive. Buy a Renault 5 (or a 4 if you need more room)

The Subaru WRX is a playful sport sedan that can scratch the performance itch without compromising its role as a daily driver.

Fearsome fast but fully driver-friendly, the drop-top 849 is Ferrari hitting its straps. Only a less-than-sparkling soundtrack lets it down

Fiat’s attempt at urban micromobility is slow, rides like it’s broken and doesn’t go very far. But it’s also impossibly chic and very cheap to lease

The follow-up to the successful DS 7 irons out some of its idiosyncrasy while standing convincingly proud of its numerous Stellantis cousins. A job decently done
