The Solterra plays to Subaru's strengths, and while it's not the best all-round EV out there, it's more engaging than you might expect

This reworked RS4 shows how committed RS GmbH is to creating cars of real character. A bit uptight, mind

Crossover'd A-Class is an improvement on the old one and will no doubt sell very well. But a GLB is the better choice

The Forester is undoubtedly a capable companion, but it’s let down by its pointless hybrid range and dated cabin

An Audi RS that nails its basics but also sprinkles in some genuine fun. A proper E63 and M5 rival

The new Kona Electric is just as competent as before, but with more of all the good stuff. Well done Hyundai

Sorry, purists. Porsche’s bestselling car in the UK is the most complete small premium SUV money can buy

A proper Top Gear hero. Seriously overdelivers on the underpromising price...

Ignore the grille, what lies behind makes the M3 the most complete sports saloon on sale today

A bunch of great updates make the Ford Mustang a sharper sports car while still staying true to its muscle car roots

A worthy estate that’ll swallow up family life better than any crossover. Strong exterior and interior design too

The last ever petrol-powered Lotus looks fantastic and drives with precision, but not quite as much emotion as we might’ve hoped

The Velar plugs a gap in, er, Land Rover's range of Range Rovers. It's bigger than the Evoque but smaller than the Sport

Hyundai’s upgraded SUV takes on heavyweights and holds its own

A decent first attempt at a purpose-built EV from Lexus. Quite expensive though...

Jaguar stepped bravely into the unknown and nailed it. A rapid, desirable, good-looking car that happens to be powered by electricity

Mazda’s oft-overlooked Corsa rival isn’t a bad all-rounder, but is let down by its weak naturally aspirated engine range

Latest CR-V is a sensible family buy and the new PHEV option makes sense for company drivers

Smart has been reborn as a Toys R Us Mercedes. Soft-edged and comforting, but it’s yet another electric crossover and lacks a USP

The most involving, joyous 992. It just makes you want to drive. What more can a sports car do?

Yes, it’s a rubbish ‘car’... because it isn’t one. But it is fun to use and an entirely loveable object
